Wheel Foundations

Wheel Foundations Pottery Classes

Simple. Easy. Convenient. Learning to throw pottery doesn't have to feel overwhelming. Here, it feels like home.

At Studio at Fort Wayne Clay, your pottery journey begins with a clear path forward — small classes, supportive community, and a teaching style built around clear skills progression. Wheel Foundations classes are designed to help you build confidence, connect with mind and body, and find joy in the creation process.

Every step is broken down with care, allowing plenty of practice time to explore at your own pace. Progress is celebrated, mistakes are welcomed as part of the process, and growth feels natural — never rushed.

Choose the place that feels right for you to begin (or continue) your wheel throwing journey:

Foundations 1: The Starting Point

(For complete beginners and anyone needing a fresh, steady start)

Start simple. Centering, pulling, shaping — the core skills of the pottery wheel are taught step-by-step, with plenty of encouragement and hands-on support. You'll create bowls, cups, and cylinders while learning the "why" behind every movement. Expect a class that is small, relaxed, and genuinely beginner-friendly.

Foundations 2: Centered & Steady

(For students who have taken Foundations 1 or have basic wheel skills)

Now that you can center and pull a basic form, it's time to level up. Foundations 2 builds stronger, more consistent throwing skills, and introduces new forms like plates and taller vessels. You'll start shaping with intention, troubleshoot common frustrations, and learn finishing techniques that make your work feel truly polished — all in a supportive community setting.

Cylinder Bootcamp

(For those ready to focus, strengthen, and throw with confidence)

Love a good challenge? Cylinder Bootcamp is your chance to zero in on mastering one of pottery’s most important shapes. Through short demonstrations, guided drills, and lots of practice time, you'll refine your hand skills, strengthen your core techniques, and throw taller, cleaner, and more consistent pots. It's intense but encouraging — and somehow, a whole lot of fun.
